SUPPORTING YOUR JOURNEY

Helping Internationally Educated PTs succeed in Ontario

As the provincial professional association, we are here to support physiotherapists as they enter the workforce. OPA, together with the Canadian Physiotherapy Association (CPA), supports individuals in navigating the resources that are available and understanding the Canadian healthcare system by helping making connections locally, provincially and nationally.

To access our resources and support, consider joining OPA, even before you join the workforce.

BECOMING A PT IN ONTARIO AS AN IEPT

How IEPTs become PTs in Ontario

For physiotherapists trained outside of Canada, called Internationally Educated Physiotherapists (IEPTs), there are four main steps to follow to work in Canada.

Check out information about how to register for practice. The pathways have changed in 2025 to improve clarity and timeliness. OPA and CPA are committed to supporting IEPTs in understanding how to access and navigate the Canadian application and registration process.

YOUR PROFESSIONAL SUPPORT

Welcoming IEPTs to the Canadian Physiotherapy Community

We recognize that IEPTs have unique experiences and training when they relocate to Ontario and we are here to welcome you into the profession by supporting you in your area of practice – private practice, primary care, home care, long-term care, and hospital.

Becoming a member of the OPA and CPA community provides a way of meeting fellow physiotherapists in areas of interest and practice.

Connect with OPA members in your area of the province through district events, consider volunteering for an OPA Committee, or attend OPA events like the InterACTION conference or the annual general meeting.

OPPORTUNITIES TO GROW AND CONNECT

Connecting with your Professional Community

Membership in OPA and CPA provides a great opportunity to support you in developing your skills as a healthcare professional. In addition to helping you find professional development resources that align with your career goals, check out CPA divisions, where you can find emerging information and events to connect with others in specific areas of practice.
