This is a one-day interdisciplinary, hands-on workshop that will provide clinicians with a basic understanding of Myofascial Pain syndrome. Clinicians attending will learn the theory behind Myofascial pain syndrome, how to assess for trigger points, and how to treat their patients with evidence based effective care including patients’ education, exercises and trigger point injections.
Describe the theory and the evidence behind Myofascial Pain Syndrome.
Recognize the muscle systems and their dysfunctions, and the presence of trigger points in specific body parts such as the upper and the lower back.
Summarize approaches for managing Myofascial Pain syndrome including education, exercises and trigger point injections.
At the end of the course, participants should be able to:
Describe how to conduct a myofascial physical assessment.
Describe the palpatory findings specific to myofascial trigger points.
Describe at least 3 common methods to treat myofascial pain syndrome.
