Brief Description

Introduction to Splinting (for Immobilization) Workshop - Taking the fear out of Splinting

A full day workshop geared towards Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, OTA /PTA, or students who want to develop or improve their skills in fabricating the most common hand/wrist orthoses in a fun and informative workshop. Geared towards beginners, or those with experience and require a refresher.

Great for private practice Physiotherapists who want to add this service for their clients.

Majority of the workshop will be focused on the practical section where each participant will fabricate 5-6 of the most common orthoses. This will allow each participant to gain confidence in pattern drawing, material handling and the fabrication process. Participants will keep all orthoses made during the workshop.

Each participant will fabricate the following Orthosis:

  • Volar Wrist splint (Thumb Hole and Radial Bar design)
  • Long Thumb Spica (using Thermoplastic & Orficast )
  • Short Thumb Spica (using Thermoplastic & Orficast )
  • Resting Hand Orthosis/Functional Orthosis
  • Mallet Finger or Swan Neck (Thermoplastic/Orficast )
  • Orthosis for Trigger Finger
  • If time permits, other orthoses will be demonstrated - (Ulnar Drift, ROM, Radial/Ulnar gutter, MP Block Splint etc.) as well as some other splints for Elbow and spasticity
