This fun and informal two day course is designed for all therapists, regardless of their professional titles or experience, who are looking for a patient-centred, pragmatic, and practical approach to the assessment and management of all painful shoulder issues.


This course aims to give all attending the confidence that doing the simple things really well is both effective and evidence based. It also attempts to cut through most of the BS and show how many of the over complicated and confusing methods of assessment and treatments are just not needed. However, this course doesn’t promise any miracle cures or quick fixes! Instead, it focuses on a simple, honest, and practical approach that gives you lots of tips and ideas that you can use immediately with all who have painful shoulders.

Adam Meakins, Instructor

Adam is an Orthopaedic Specialist Physiotherapist with an extended scope of practice working in both the NHS and private practice. He has been a physio for over 20 years and has been specialising in the assessment and management of upper limb issues for over 15 of these years.


Along with his qualifications in physiotherapy, Adam also has a degree in Sports Science and is a qualified Strength and Conditioning Coach and has worked in many roles and various setting throughout his career, including professional football and rugby.


Adam is also actively involved in clinical research, having published peer reviewed papers on Frozen Shoulder, Shoulder Symptom Modification Procedures, Modern Manual Therapy, as well as currently working on a number of projects including the role of communication in healthcare.


Adam is widely known for his no-nonsense, simple, practical, honest, evidence-based approach as well as his critical views on physiotherapy and healthcare on social media.


Adam is an international key speaker and has taught physiotherapy both at undergraduate and post graduate levels. He has also been teaching his widely acclaimed ‘Painful Shoulder’ course for the last 10 years in over 25 countries to 1000s of therapists.



Course Objectives

  • Simplify the assessment, management, and treatment of the most commonly encountered shoulder problems.
  • Examine how to best assess and diagnose painful shoulders.
  • Expose the common myths and misconceptions around shoulder anatomy, biomechanics, assessments, and pathology.
  • Evaluate how to best assess shoulder movement, strength, endurance, power, proprioception, and its kinetic chain.
  • Practice all levels of shoulder rehab exercises and how to progress and/or regress rehab intensity as required.
