Presented by the Eastern Ontario and the Central Toronto District of the Ontario Physiotherapy Association
This practical course was developed to assist clinicians working throughout the continuum of care in establishing evidence based assessment and treatment plans of care for seniors with complex care needs. It is designed to provide an assessment and clinical reasoning framework based on geriatric principals of care. This 2-day course will assist you in understanding the current best evidence, what is normal aging and how to identify and manage the Geriatric Giants. Case studies and group work will assist to integrate newly acquired knowledge and clinical reasoning skills. Participants will also be involved in multiple short practical sessions to assimilate and review geriatric assessment skills. There will be course facilitators with geriatric expertise to assist with some components of the course. The participants will leave with a new toolbox of assessment and management skills that can be immediately incorporated into practice. The course will include formal lecture and practical/group work/case studies.
Participants are asked to bring a short case study (one paragraph) to the course. These may be used at the end of the course to discuss or review any material/clinical topics that have or may not have been covered and to reinforce the skills and understanding of geriatrics you have acquired.
