Course Description: As pelvic health professionals, we have been taught and are aware of the benefits and evidence supporting the use of a biopsychosocial-spiritual approach in pelvic pain care, yet, we often struggle with the clinical application and delivery of such techniques while staying within our professional scope of practice. Internal pelvic floor assessments and/or treatments are not always appropriate or indicated for every individual who suffers with pelvic pain; therefore, clinicians are frequently looking for more effective non-internal techniques to choose from. The therapeutic application of yoga by healthcare professionals can assist in providing this evidence-informed whole-person, non-internal approach. A growing number of medical professionals are recommending yoga to their patients with pelvic pain particularly since we have compelling research that suggests yoga can be a feasible, safe and effective approach for improving function, pain and quality of life for people with chronic pain. However, there is often a barrier in finding a safe or appropriate option that suits the needs of the individual with pelvic pain. This is where you, the clinician, can be of service! Join Shelly Prosko, physiotherapist and yoga therapist, for this unique online course Integrating Yoga into Pelvic Pain Care for rehab professionals who work with people living with chronic pelvic pain (non-internal; suitable for all clinicians). In this course, you will learn a variety of yoga practices and principles that can be easily integrated into your clinical practice, while staying within your professional scope of practice, and that are in line with our current scientific theories and understandings surrounding chronic pelvic pain. This course will help you help your patients with pelvic pain to move with more ease, reduce and manage their pain, and progress towards a thriving quality of life. Using yoga therapeutically offers a whole-person approach to pain management that supports self-efficacy and empowerment within the person in pain and promotes longevity of compassionate caregiving within the professional. This 2-part online course includes a combination of pre-recorded lectures, live online lectures, discussion and experiential components. Enjoy the opportunity for some well deserved self-care as you experience practices that can be immediately used with your patients in the clinic setting such as:
