Course Description:

In a world where technology development and use is rapidly becoming the rule rather than the exception, there is much for rehabilitation professionals to keep up to date on.

In the space of pelvic health rehabilitation alone, the last five years has demonstrated the emergence of hundreds of technologies to support care in the form of mobile applications, portable intravaginal pelvic floor devices, advanced high intensity non-invasive (yes, sitting fully clothes) electrical muscle stimulation, virtual care platforms and much, much more.

How effective are these technologies – are most of them just gimmicks are can they support clinical care and self-management in a meaningful way?
Is there really promise and longevity in virtual care?

In this mini course, from an evidence-informed perspective, Dr. Sinéad Dufour will take you through the what, why, how and how effective, pertaining to a number of pelvic health technologies.  If you need help navigating which technologies to integrate into your practice, how to counsel clients regarding technologies on the market and or are looking to increase your conviction and confidence with respect to virtual care, look no further, this is the course for you.

Specific Technologies Reviewed in this Course

  • TAT smart device application
  • mHealth applications with associated intravaginal devices (perifit & elvie)
  • HIFEM technology (Emsella Chair)
  • Intravaginal Lazer (MonaLisa)

As the lead author of the just published clinical practice guidelines on eHealth and mHealth technologies for Urinary Incontinence in Women (SOGC, 2022), the recommendations from this guideline (SOGC) will be reviewed.
