Unit Summary

McMaster Children's Hospital (MCH) is part of the Hamilton Health Sciences' family of hospitals. MCH serves a community of 2.3 million people from south central Ontario and beyond. The Pediatric Chronic Pain Program is an ambulatory clinic of the Specialty Pediatric Services at MCH. The program provides coordinated, comprehensive pediatric chronic pain services through ambulatory clinics with an inter-professional case management model of care as well as through an intensive 21 day outpatient day program. The Pediatric Chronic Pain Program provides an inter-professional approach with expertise in pediatric chronic pain management within a family-centred environment. The program provides tertiary and subspecialty care to children with complex chronic pain conditions.

Position Summary

As a member of the inter-professional pediatric chronic pain team, the physiotherapist will deliver care to children, youth and families in an outpatient tertiary care setting. The physiotherapist will promote excellence in pediatric patient and family-centred care through expert clinical practice, education, consultation and research. Responsibilities will include: providing physiotherapy assessment and treatment as part of an inter-professional team; managing and maintaining an active caseload as per program requirements and expectations; working collaboratively with other team members to develop and implement comprehensive individualized care plans for children and adolescents; working with patients and families in developing treatment pathways that best support optimizing function; consultation/liaison to caregivers and community agencies; developing and providing staff education and training; and participating in program development initiatives and quality assurance projects.

Schedule Work Hours

Monday to Friday, days/evenings. This position is temporary until April 2026.

Qualifications

  • Current registration in good standing with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in pediatric physiotherapy assessment and treatment planning in a tertiary care pediatric healthcare setting
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills, critical thinking, mentoring, coaching and working within an interdisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated caseload management skills and knowledge of community resources and supports
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and within an interdisciplinary care model
  • Demonstrated facilitation, coordination, assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation skills
  • Knowledge of current evidence-based practices for pediatric pain interventions such as TENS, EMS, relaxation and exercise therapy modalities
  • Willingness to engage in clinical research within the interdisciplinary team
  • Relevant pediatric chronic pain experience preferred

Proficiency in both Official Languages would be an asset.
