Celebrate National Physiotherapy Month with the workshop Intro to Yoga for Scoliosis – Sunday May 5, 2019 – 3-6 PM

This workshop introduces how Yoga can be used to meet the challenges faced by clients having Scoliosis. Based on techniques from internationally acclaimed Iyengar instructor Elise Browning Miller which includes:
- Anatomy of the common Scoliotic Curves
- A overview of spinal assessment and identification of compensatory mechanisms seen in clients with scoliosis
- A introduction of the principles of using yoga postures for individual scoliotic curves
Through a variety of yoga practices and poses, people with scoliosis can develop improved structural alignment, become more symmetrical, and find the balance point that allows the scoliosis curve to coexist with gravity. This workshop will introduce the principle skills and confidence to offer an active approach to scoliotic treatment.
Light refreshments will be provided. All are welcome!
Karen Hope, a Registered Physiotherapist, owns and practices in her home-based clinic in Schomberg, Ontario as well as provides clients physiotherapy in their home. Having 20 years experience as a physiotherapist, she values the outcomes that quality one- on- one therapy provides for her clients. Using manual therapy, exercise prescription, acupuncture and modalities she strives to treat the cause of client’s symptoms to ensure they recover faster and more cost efficiently. After years of participating in sports herself, she has learned the significant health benefits of yoga, for low back pain and specifically as a safe and effective tool for her clients having scoliosis. The workshop provided by the OPA is an introduction to the Part 1 Yoga Training Workshop.
