Our Level 2 program provides complex management training for rehabilitation professionals. This program was designed to build on the foundation of the Level 1 knowledge, and provide the clinician with an in-depth understanding of the various complexities of post-concussion related symptoms and challenges. While the majority of concussion will resolve in a timely manner, some patients are faced with complex and debilitating challenges following a concussion. Our Level 2 program provides clinicians with additional training to learn how to navigate the care pathway while co-managing several areas of dysfunction. Concussion affects not only athletes, but all individuals, and our training is designed to help understand how to tailor the initial rehabilitation plan to the lifestyle demands of each case.

This program is designed to be very hands on and interactive. We go through exercises in a small group setting.

Vestibular and Ocular Rehabilitation Methods:

Day 1 and 2: We present the available research on vestibular-oculomotor dysfunction in concussion and mild traumatic brain injury and offer rehabilitative strategies to match assessment findings. This course further elucidate when it's appropriate to refer to Optometry or other Health Disciplines and what those services might contribute to your overall rehabilitation plan. In addition, we will cover autonomic dysfunction in concussion and the application of exercise/exertion testing and therapy.

Complex Case Management with Cervical Considerations:

Day 3: We offer treatment and rehabilitation considerations for cervical injury and whiplash in concussion patients. As well, we will review complex case management topics such as persistent post-traumatic headache, psychological sequelae in post concussion syndrome, and activity/exercise intolerance. In this course we emphasize strategies for seeking out an interdisciplinary team for complex case management and offer information on making appropriate referrals for complex care needs.

Key Course Topics:

  • Vestibular and Oculomotor Impairment in Concussion and Post Concussion Syndrome
  • The Vestibular System: Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology
