Participants who register for this course have the option to attend the course live and/or watch the recorded sessions later. The recording will be available to all registrants for a 2-week period after the course/each session. This allows participants who may not be able to attend the live sessions to still benefit from the course content.

Course Description:

As pelvic health professionals, we are in a unique position to use yoga therapeutically. Yoga is becoming increasingly recognized by healthcare organizations globally and integrated into university rehabilitation programs, as growing research suggests it can be used as an effective and safe form of complementary therapy for numerous populations, including people with a variety of pelvic health conditions.

This 2 hour course with Shelly Prosko, physiotherapist, yoga therapist and educator with over 26 years of clinical experience, serves as an introduction to the therapeutic use of yoga in pelvic rehabilitation.

The knowledge and understanding you will gain in this course is essential to inform your clinical reasoning of how, why and when to apply any yoga techniques learned. It will also optimize the impact that these accessible yoga principles and practices have been shown to have on patient outcomes in those struggling with various pelvic health issues.

Objectives:

  1. Define and describe yoga and yoga therapy with a clear understanding of how yoga offers a whole-person, biopsychosocial-spiritual practice.
  2. Understand common misconceptions surrounding yoga.
  3. Gain a general understanding of key yoga principles that any clinician can use as an accessible adjunct in pelvic rehab to support people with a variety of pelvic floor related conditions.
  4. Gain a general understanding of key yoga practices that any clinician can use as an accessible adjunct in pelvic rehab to support people with a variety of pelvic floor related conditions.
  5. Outline why integrating yoga therapy into pelvic rehabilitation can serve as a sustainable approach for clinicians to help prevent burnout and promote career longevity.
