On Saturday June 10 at Etobicoke’s Centennial Park the heat was on! Physiotherapists are famed for their dogged competitive spirit, but nothing stokes the fire of competition like a no-holds-barred beach volleyball tournament.
The day couldn’t have been nicer. Warm temperatures and a perfect breeze; beaming sunshine, only matched by the glow of sixty sun-kissed smiles on the happy faces of our participants.
The OPA’s Westgate district was proud to host our inaugural Beach Volleyball Tournament in support of the Physiotherapy Foundation of Canada. A total of seven teams contributed to this effort from across the breadth of the GTA. Neuro-physiotherapists rubbed sandy shoulders next to orthopaedic physios; in-patient therapists next to out-patient; and a few supportive friends and family members joined the mix as well.
Here was the day’s roster:
- Neurocore (Hardcore)
- Neurocore (Softcore)
- Hamilton Health Sciences
- Propel Physiotherapy
- Fun In The Sun
- Team Twinkies
- D-ACEpacitos
The games were fast-paced and fun, with many coming right down to the wire or ending in a tie. The brief breaks between were peppered with drinks, snacks, and the handing out of our giveaway prizes. By early afternoon, when the dust (literally and figurately) settled, we had our winner ….. Team Twinkies!
Many thanks to all our participants for coming out and supporting our PFC. We are pleased to have raised over $500 to support this important cause. Thanks to the OPA and Cornerstone Physiotherapy for donating prizes. Special thanks to Andres Rodriguez for working hard as our lead organizer.
